Validation error in plain-text form fields on a Mac
July 13, 2011, 07:51:50 am
This is a strange one. I've seen some discussion about validation errors on the forum, but non seem to be exactly like this.

We have a profile field set up with some plain text text-area fields. When users try to paste formmated text into those fields from any program on a mac into a modern browser (chrome, safari, firefox), they get this message:

Quote
Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.
There is a validation error with your HTML input. Your activity is a bit suspicious, hence aborting
Return to home page.

If the text is copied to a plain-text editor first, and then pasted, it works fine.

Would love to hear any thoughts anyone might have about this... Quite frustrating.

P.S we're on the latest civicrm and drupal.

It's clear that there are some hidden characters that are being copied into the field that the IDS (anti-hacking system) thinks are suspicious.  There are two options here:

1. Resign yourself to the fact that you will have to copy the characters into a plain-text before copying them into CiviCRM.  generally a good procedure anyway, in my opinion
2. Turn off IDS
