No Confirmation Email Sent for Paid Event or Contribution

Having recently upgraded our site to Joomla 1.6 and CiviCRM 4.0, we have an issue with no confirmation email being automatically sent when a user signs up for an event or makes a contribution. Emails can be sent if they are done manually from the contact's contribution page. We are using PHP 5.2.13, MySQL 5.0.37. We are also using Paypal Standard. We do have a no-fee event which is generating automatic confirmation emails. Thanks in advance for any help.

Turns out this had something to do with the PDF setting being missed during upgrade.  The "Attach PDF Copy to Receipts" radio button did not have a value in Global Settings->Miscellaneous.  Once "no" was selected, e-mail confirmations started working again.

Holy shimoly, thanks for posting this!  After 2 fruitless hours of searching I solved my email problem thanks to this.  ;D

Appears the same problem existed in 3.4.8 -- whew! Had spent 15 minutes, and then solved in 30 seconds via the forums -- I wish all issues were like that!
