CiviCRM demo w/ Joomla
January 23, 2008, 10:04:34 am
I am trying to test out the CiviCRM demo with Joomla, however, when I go to the demo I am presented with the Joomla frontend and am able to login with demo/demo, but I don't see the same administration tools as is setup for the Drupal demo.

Bump...anyone?  Can't a site admin reset the password for Joomla so that we can test drive the Joomla/CiviCRM installation?

I'm glad you asked your question.  I use CiviCRM under Drupal, however, when I try the Joomla demo I don't have a clue what I'm looking at.  Where is the advanced search on the Joomla demo?

I'm not sure what you're suggesting. The reason we don't generally provide access to the admin part of the Joomla demo site is because we don't know of any way to prevent folks from doing destructive things once "the public" is allowed to login... and we don't have the resources to closely babysit this.

My apologies if I wasn't clear.  I guess what I was trying to point out was that with the Drupal demo, it seemed as if you had full access to the administration area to see how CiviCRM was managed and integrated into the Drupal system.  However, with the Joomla demo, it looked as if we were only seeing some parts of the CiviCRM application from the frontend.  I had thought that we would be able to see how CiviCRM operates 'underneath the hood' so to say with Joomla as well.

Yeah - I wish we could figure out a safe way to do this. Until then, your choices are to play with the Drupal demo - which isn't a bad option since the backend view of CiviCRM in Joomla is almost identical. OR - install your own copy and explore...

This is probably due to Joomla's abysmal ACL system.  A black mark on what is otherwise a fantastic OSS CMS system.
