Profile Search vs Admin (contact) search
July 25, 2011, 12:50:01 pm
Is there a way to ensure that these return the same results?  Or maybe someone can help me understand why they are returning different results.

I am using a profile search on a site that has a directory.  That directory includes a listing for Mamae's Cooking.

Searching in the admin area for Mamae's Cooking, I am able to see the contact.
Searching from the profile search link, I get
"No matches found for:
Contacts IN Chamber Members ...AND...
Business Name LIKE Mamae’s Cooking"

However, if I search for Mamae using the profile search link, I get the desired result - the listing for Mamae's Cooking is shown.

It appears that the issue is the apostrophe, since searching (from the profile search link) for Mamae's also results in no matches found.  But that issue is apparently overcome in the admin search functions.

Is there a way to fix this for profile searches as well?  Or am I missing something else?

ETA:  This particular site is Civi 3.2.1.

Just checked and this issue is not present in current stable versions (I checked 3.4.4).

Dave, thanks for checking.  I checked my updated sites as well and it is not an issue.

If you can't upgrade your 3.2.1 site to 3.4.4, at least upgrade it to the last version of the 3.2.x series, which I beleive is 3.2.6
Try CiviTeacher: the online video tutorial CiviCRM learning library.

Thanks for the advice Stoob - upgrading this site is actually my task for the weekend.  It just happened that the client was having search issues and I wanted to be able to reassure them it was resolved in later versions.
