Entirely confused and frustrated

I've created a set of custom fields that I want to pull into a profile. Problem is when I go to add a field to the profile the fields I created are not an option for me. in the list of field names I see stuff like Contacts, Individual, Household, etc. Not even sure where that stuff is coming from.

Arggh!!!!

To what entity is your custom field set assigned? Each custom field set is assigned to an entity like Events or Contacts etc.

I've tried it set to Events and Contacts.. not working.

If you can spend a few clicks reading through the first sections of the online book (esp events and profiles) - that should help w/ frustration:

If you want to add custom fields ABOUT people attending your events (i.e. Choose your lunch option: ) - the custom data set Used For should be PARTICIPANTS (not events). If you are collecting persistent info about a person registering (i.e. not specific to their participation in a specific event) - then Used For should be INDIVIDUALS.
