Event registration by anonymous users?
July 29, 2011, 03:45:43 am
I have a contacts database which has been put together by me - individuals do not have access to the details i have stored, and i don't want them to - however, i also have to keep track of event registration.

Some of those attending events are already in the database, some are not - i can of course add existing and new by hand, but the ideal would be to allow users to register themselves.

Is there any way to allow anonymous event registration but match those registrations with existing individuals, without giving them access to the information i have stored on them? at the same time, attendees which were not already in the database would have to be creating new individual entries.

the more i think about this the more unlikely it seems, and i can immediately see problems with spambots/etc, but i might as well ask anyway!

the only other option i can think of would be to use a normal drupal webform to collect attendees and use the "import participants" feature to enter them into civievent, but i've not really looked into how feasible that is yet.

thanks
david

This is how CiviCRM works, actually. By default I believe it matches on the email address, but you can set your dedupe rules. You can now register users for events directly via the Webform Integration module. http://drupal.org/project/webform_civicrm
Try asking your question on the new CiviCRM help site.
