Completing pending transactions
July 31, 2011, 05:47:31 pm
We have people who regularly for whatever reason don't complete their PayPal transactions. In other systems I have used there is a way for the user to resubmit these, but I can't find a way to do it in CiviCRM. Is there a way for the user to resubmit their transaction to PayPal w/o going back through the whole membership contribution process?

I realize I can invoice the user from PayPal and then manually complete the contribution in Civi, but having a way for the user to resubmit the payment directly from their dashboard would be a lot more convenient.

Any thoughts?

Lobo,

The one I am most familiar with is VirtueMart, as I use it for ticket ordering on the community theatre site I support.

With virtuemart, the last step of the order process is an order confirmation page with a link (in the PayPal case, a PayPal button) that allows you to submit payment. At the same time the system sends you an order confirmation e-mail that contains a link to your order in the system. As long as you haven't paid for your order the PayPal button (or whatever payment system you have selected) will still display on the page, once you pay it goes away.

In Civi's case, I would most likely expect to see a "Complete Payment" link in the Status column in the contribution section on the contact dashboard for orders in a pending state. That would then resubmit the payment, or in the case of paypal be a link to resubmit the payment to PayPal. I don't know enough about the other payment processor modules to know how difficult this would be with them.
