Localization link not ok with Drupal
August 02, 2011, 10:22:30 am
Hi all.

I've been installing Civicrm 4.04 on Drupal 7.7, a fresh install.  I love the new install feature where you don't have to mess about with .tar.gz files, but I've had one problem with the localization module (I'm based in Ireland so need this module).

When I cut and paste in the link for the localization module from the install instruction page  (which was incorrect, btw, and which I've updated so that it's now correct) I get the following error from Drupal:

Code: [Select]
civicrm-4.0.4-l10n.tar.gz does not contain any .info files.
(install page is at http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/Drupal+Installation+Guide+for+CiviCRM+4.0)

Anyone know why this is happening?   Am I missing something?

I've also tried to download the file myself and then manually upload the .tar.gz file but I get exactly the same message.

By the way, the rest of CiviCRM installs correctly.

Thanks,
VS.

See http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/CiviCRM+Localisation Step 2 in "User Language (Translations)" starts with Uncompress the tarball. Did you do that?

No, because the instructions at
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/Drupal+Installation+Guide+for+CiviCRM+4.0
seem to indicate that this was unnecessary.  I'm happy to install it the old way, as described in your link.

But this seems to mean that step four on the main installation guide (see my link) is incorrect, and shouldn't be there?

Oh, I see now. I was not aware of that step on that page. I do not know. I know that the instructions on the page I sent you DO work, but I indeed also think that step 4 of that page is wrong.

Or what's more likely is that there's some .info file(s) missing from the tarball...

No, it's not actually a module. It doesn't need any .info file to work.

Ok, I wonder what should be done about step four on the installation instruction page then?  Delete it?  I'm not experienced enough with CiviCRM to feel confident enough to make that call in case there's something I'm missing.  I'll leave it to greater minds than myself, I guess!

I also experienced this issue. Would be good if either the instructions or the localisation file could be fixed.

Hi 2020media,

Don't forget that you can still install the localization files, instructions are at http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/CiviCRM+Localisation .

I got this problem as well. I thought the instruction about installing the localisation as I would module was a bit odd, because it is not a module. but this is there first time I've done a version 4.x install so I gee it a shot, and it didn't work. Strange - presumably it must have worked for someone or they would not have written he instruction in the wiki?

The rogue step 4 is still in the wiki. And it still doesn't work. No-one has yet owned up to writing step 4 or provided any information as to why it should work, so I'm going to take the bold step of deleting step 4 (or rather editing it).

Upperholme, you are correct. I further edited that wiki page to make it even clearer. Thank you for your assistance--all documentation here is community maintained and all contributions are appreciated. :)
