Thinking of dropping Raiser's Edge for CiviCRM
August 05, 2011, 05:40:30 am
Hi all,

I have recently started working for a medium sized UK charity. The charity has been using Raiser's Edge and NetCommunity for a few years and no one here is happy with it. It's not been managed properly since the beginning and the data is a bit of a mess. It's hugely expensive and resource hungry, requiring five dedicated servers to run properly. The Raiser's Edge and NetCommunity software are clunking behemoths, powerful if you know what you're doing but too complicated for the average user. We need something a bit more light-weight and nimble.

The question is has anyone here successfully migrated from Raiser's Edge to CiviCRM? Was it an expensive process and did CiviCRM provide the functionality you wanted? Were there any pitfalls?

I'd really appreciate some feedback from anyone who has been in a similar position. I've long been an advocate of open source solutions and I am keen to demonstrate to our leadership that there isn't necessarily a direct correlation between cost and quality.

Dylan

Hello Dylan,

As Lobo says, coming to CiviCon would be a really good way for you to learn more about whether CiviCRM is right for you.

The two day user and admin training is also very useful for people evaluating CiviCRM.

I'd be happy to talk to you more about what we cover at the trainings either by email or you can phone 020 7183 5828 or put you in touch with previous participants so you can find out 'from the horses mouth' how useful it was.
