See all Activities for both an organisation and its related individuals
August 10, 2011, 02:38:31 pm
Hi

Wondering if this is possible. Most of our activities are with organisations, but sometimes we have to contact an individual who is related to the organisation - so how can I can see all the activities for both an organisation and its related individuals? The reason is that we need to know if some vital activity is lurking in an individual's Activity tab, which we should be aware of when dealing with the organisation itself.

So far have tried an advanced search, which can give me a list of activities undertaken by employees of an organisation - so that's something. But I was hoping to be able to see both the org's activities and the individual ones at the same time, for context.

Am I right to pursue the Search route? Or perhaps a custom report, as relationships + activities do not seem to exist together on the standard report criteria?

Just wondering if anyone else has tried this and how you approached it.

Thanks very much

Jo

I don't know of a way to get at this w/ current searches / reports (of course might be missing something obvious). If you're going to have to write some code, might make sense to customize the activity tab template and use crmAPI to grab the related individuals activities and display in a separate table (that way they're front and center).

Thanks for that Dave. That would be a perfect solution if I can get it to work.

Did anyone find an easy (ie. non-hacking) solution for this?

It didn't matter for us in the end as the client changed their mind and decided that they wanted a workflow where all activities were set against organisations, not against any individuals (reason being that in the voluntary sector people come and go too much, and activities could be lost if an individual left the organisation and thus the database).

We didn't do any development work on it, so don't know if it is possible. Sorry!
