I created a custom data to collect participants' dietary information. I set it to be used for participant (workshop). Then I created a registration for a workshop. I used a profile to collect first name and last name and hoped the custom data would be attached to this registration. However, the profile was attached and the custom data was not. When I tested the registration, I only saw the fields from the profile, not those from the custom data.

Did I miss anything here?

you have to add the custom data fields to the profile you're using for registration. recommend that you review the profile and event registration sections in the online book: http://en.flossmanuals.net/CiviCRM/
