participant_role vs. participant_role_id
August 13, 2011, 03:13:19 am
We use the participant role to differentiate the participant type of an event. As the participant can change that (they can decide if they are Lead / Follow for an event), we used to add the participant_role_id to the events in 3.2.

After the upgrade to 3.4.5 it is not an option anymore when you build your profile, it just say participant_role and it works, with a minor hitch though. The form uses participant_role, yet the default value is in participant_role_id. Hence, when a user changes the participant_role in the form, it shows perfectly in the confirm and thank you screen, yet does not make it into the database (where the default value of participant_role_id is stored instead), as can be seen in the confirmation mails.

Either way, trying in vain to find out how and where what is used I basically gave up now as it seems there are too many points where participant_role is used, then role_id, then it is magically set to the default_role_id and so on. Maybe someone with more knowledge can take a look at this.

Can you reproduce this on demo. If so, please file an issue. We can trace it and figure out whats happening and fix.
