Joomla upgrade to 3.4.5 eliminates administration menus
August 16, 2011, 06:07:48 pm
I've updated the software and the database and received success messages, but all of the navigation links are now missing.  I've searched all the messages with similar issues and tried some of the solutions, but no luck.  I thought at first that the resource URL's needed to be updated, but when I managed to get to that page they appeared to be correct.  Please help!

Did you use shift-refresh on your browser to refresh your browser cache?

This doesn't appear to be a cache problem, something is really broken in the install.  I suppose I can try uninstalling and reinstalling the software, but I was hoping to find some other fix.

I have now tried uninstalling and reinstalling, still get the same success messages and still no access to navigation tabs or administration menu.  Can anyone help with this issue?

I'm having the exact same problem, but I'm using Drupal, not Joomla.  After the upgrade from 3.3 to 3.4.5, I see no menus.  The only way I see to get to any of my CiviCRM functionality is to go directly to the URLs, e.g. http://my-site.com/civicrm/contact/search .

kenahoo, did you try:

flush all caches
use shift-refresh in your browser
delete all files and folders in sites/default/files/civicrm/templates_c
disable and re-enable CiviCRM
switch themes (as a test)

If not, try all of those.

Yup, I just tried all of those, I'm still getting the same result.

Did you look in Firebug (for Firefox) for any JS errors? Or in the Net tab for any files not found?

Great suggestion - I looked in the error console and I'm getting some errors:

Error: cj is not defined
Source File: http://www.singersinaccord.org/civicrm/dashboard
Line: 136

Looks like 'cj' is a JQuery object?  I do have the JQuery UI (6.x-1.5) and jQuery Update (6.x-2.0-alpha1) modules installed.  Perhaps they're interfering with something?

Could be. Try disabling them.

Still no luck.   :(

I'm also getting a message on my dashboard saying "Javascript must be enabled in your browser in order to use the dashboard features."  But Javascript is definitely enabled.  Is there a detector somewhere that's not working maybe?

Sorry, the one thing I forgot to try was switching themes, and in fact switching to Bluemarine seems to bring back the menu.

The theme I'm using is a sub-theme of Blueprint 6.x-2.0 (http://drupal.org/project/blueprint).  When I try the basic Blueprint theme, the menu disappears again, so it looks like Blueprint is incompatible with CiviCRM?

I'm not sure how to diagnose the theme problem further though.

I'm also not sure--I think CiviCRM works fine with the built in themes, but it sounds like yours may be modified OR perhaps another module has JS code that is conflicting. Either way, it's a JS problem.

If you can't further diagnose yourself, you could consider hiring someone to do that.

Me again. :-*

It looks like the problem with Blueprint is that its '<?php print $scripts ?>' entry is way down at the bottom of the page.  I have no idea why that's the case, their page seems to claim it's for speed.  If I move it near the top, things start working (except the menu still looks a bit funny...).
