New (and lost) to CiviCRM
January 28, 2008, 01:46:42 pm
Hello there,  I am completely new to CiviCRM and was wondering:

1. How easy (or hard) it is to port existing information, databases, users, etc over to CiviCRM?
2. How does email delivery work?  What is the max amount of emails one can send for a mass email?
3. Is it easy to create complex queries?
4. Is phonebanking easy to do in CiviCRM?
5. Are surveys easy to create and track?
6. Is there a way to only email subsets of groups (ie. districts within a chapter)?

Thank you so much!!!!   ;D

OK, the default answer is depends.

From there here are some considerations.

1. The closer the data is to a single csv file, the easier it is to import. CiviCRM's import is very robust, so even if you have 20 csv files and you are "layering" in data to the CiviCRM DB, I personally consider it very easy. If you have no idea how you might have 20 csv files with interconnected data, then consider it hard.

2. A CiviCRM component, CiviMail handles the sending of email to pre-defined lists. There are no email limits if you have installed CiviMail and you have a email provider that takes reasonable precautions for delivering spam. If you don't know what postfix and domain keys are, then the high volume option will only work if you have a consultant.

3. Try search builder and get back to me with your opinion.

I think its pretty easy.

CiviReport integrates an open source reporting tool to give you access to powerful reporting capabilities.

4. It might be harder that expected snce past efforts have petered out:

5. Are you comparing it to survey monkey? If so, then not easy. But you can ask questions and record the results for contacts very easily. tabulating results takes a bit of work.

6. Yes, structure your smart groups hierarchically.
