Default headers/footers in system workflow message templates
August 25, 2011, 02:17:21 pm
I’m going to use system workflow message templates to send activity-triggered e-mails to users, such as event registration confirmations and new member welcomes. I want these messages to use HTML styling, which I know how to do. I also want them to use the exact same header and footer design elements every time.

CiviMail lets you create a default header and footer, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to call them into the system workflow message templates. I want to avoid having to insert the HTML code for the header and footer elements into each and every system workflow message template because that would be a) tedious and b) a nightmare to update if there’s ever a change to either element.

My searches on the Internet for a way to include a default header/footer in system workflow message templates have yielded nothing.

Is it even possible to have system workflow message templates pull in default header/footer elements from a master source of some type? If so, how do I go about doing that?

P.S. My experience with CiviCRM is very limited to date, and I’m not a developer or coder; my area of responsibility is theming/design. If the solution involves .tpl.php files and PHP coding, that’s fine; I’ll either figure it out or hand it over to more knowledgeable coworkers.

hi k - very same thought.

Ideally maybe an option to be able to flag one of the civimail header/footer to 'use for all SysTpl Messages?

In our case we often tweak the headers in different contexts to include eg Participant/Membership/Contribution ID but would just replan to include those below the 'include default header' bit.

Happy to help work with you on this esp. if some of your 'knowledgeable colleagues' can contribute development resources towards it - and/or chip in to an MIH if it makes it that far.

Lobo is suggesting I do a blog to grab others who might be interested to help hone the specs without finding we are unleashing some monster.
