Security Issues: Where is the data stored?
August 26, 2011, 03:46:43 am
Hello,

My organisation is looking into a type of CRM system and CiviCRM looks to be the best for many reasons, but we are concerned about the security of it since we need to store sensitive contact information.

As an open source, we are naturally concerned about where the information is being stored. With CiviCRM is it possible to store the information on our own server? Or must it be stored on CiviCRM?

Thanks for your help,
e.

CiviCRM is not a hosted solution. The only way to run it, in fact, is to download the PHP source code and install it on a server. There are private firms offering hosted CiviCRM, but all they did is also download the code and install it.

All data is stored in the MySQL database, which of course can be housed on your server.
