Expose relationships to users
September 01, 2011, 08:31:39 am
Dear all,

I would love to see a feature in CiviCRM that allows the Users (Drupal or Joomla) to see and maintain their own relationships.
The only project available so far is http: // civicrm.org / node / 604
I think more of a core feature though. I imagine a type of 'Custom Field' that would be of 'Data and Input Field Type' Relationship where you could select a Relationship and field of the correspondant contact type.
E.g.: Relationship->Parent Of->First Name
and: Relationship->Parent Of->Gender
and: Relationship->Parent Of->DateOfBirth

In a CiviCRM Profile, this would be presented as a listing for all corresponding relationships. If there is no relationship of that type, it could show no siblings and allow to add some.

Example:
Dan is father of Nina and Lisa. He has to relationships saying parent of Lisa and parent of Nina.
On Dan's Profile page, this would show as

Parent Of:
_____________________
First name: Lisa
Gender:      female
DoB:          01/01/2000
____________________
First name: Nina
Gender:      female
DoB:          03/02/1998
____________________

What do you think?

Best, newuser

Note that permissioned relationships are also exposed in the user dashboard. You can potentially tweak that code to customize what u want to do

if your org / client is willing to work and/or sponsor this request that would be great and help the project

For Drupal Users there are also other possibilities with the Webform/CiviCRM integration module which lets a user create relationships on the fly
