How to do a bulk creation of activities?
September 03, 2011, 12:00:24 pm
Is it possible to do a bulk creation of activities?

For example, if I do an advanced search, filter out a set of contacts, how do I create a unqiue activity for each of this contacts in one action?

i.e. If I select 5 contacts from my search, I want to create 5 activities of type "Phone Call" with the status "Scheduled" and assign it to one of our volunteers.

"Record activity for contacts" creates one activity for all the contacts selected, I want one activity per contact I've selected.

Thanks,

Donald Lobo

This is currently not possible. Would also be a nice feature to add to the current code base

Still a very valid question

Any idea on the task involved?

Also the Import Activity is missing ability to import 'Target' afaik. Again, any idea of scope of task?

I believe we actually had a vendor do a bulk activity create for us in the method I described. With extensions in v4, we should probably look at having this refactored into an extension and making it available to the community. I'll look into it.

you can create separate activities for each contact in 4.3 from the UI

extending the import activity for targets is probably a 15-30 hour project

The former is great to know

Tried it on demo. Steps were

Find Contacts
Select any two
Action > Record Activity
Set Activity Type = Interview
Select 'create separate activity'
Assign to 'random person'.

Outcome. Random person has 2 Activities assigned for each of the 2 people selected - and was sent 2 emails alerting them to fact GREAT

note  - if we add dozens of Activities to a Target, the target will be sent dozens of emails. if we need to stop them getting email notifications for them all we could change their email temporarily

do you think it is reasonable/feasible to provide a setting that would disable the sending of emails during this process? or is there another way to do this.

ps the above seems to avoid us needing to go the Import route so will put that idea aside for now

This is a great feature addition.  Thank you!

Anyway to do the same thing when sending an email to several people?  We would love to have that email file individually for each recipient.

I don't see a checkbox on emails.  If I were a developer (or could ask a developer for help), how hard would it be to add this functionality to emails?
