SMTP Settings Required for Contribution Processing?

I received an SMTP error message when trying to process a contribution? Since when does SMTP have anything to do with CiviContribute? I'm beginning to wish I had my older CiviCRM version...

In any case, how do I know what my SMTP username is?

For sending contribution receipt you will require to SMTP setup. Check with your service provider for SMTP credentials.

If you don't want CiviCRM to automatically try to email a receipt to your contributors, simply uncheck the Email Receipt to Contributor? box under Configure Online Contribution Page >> Thank-you and Receipting.
