I have MySQL 5.0 - do I really need to upgrade to 5.1?

Hi all,

I am pumped to begin using CiviCRM.

Anyway, on this page: http:// wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/Drupal+Installation+Guide+for+CiviCRM+4.0
it says that you need MySQL 5.1.x, and then later is says that it has been tested with MySQL 5.x.  Which is it?

bgm on IRC suggests that 5.0 works but 5.1 is better.  Is this true?
If so, what would I lose or gain by choosing 5.0?

I have other stuff running on MySQL and I do not want to upgrade and risk errors with them if it is not required, but I will if I need to.

Thanks.

Smaug

Hi,

Things like the triggers for multi-lingual are way harder to set up using mysql 5.0 (permission issues).

Most of the features _should_ work on 5.0. This being said, as almost everyone uses 5.1, you will be on your own if there is a problem... and 5.1 is 3 years old, I'd suggest to upgrade indeed.
