New mailing step 2 goes back to step 1
September 06, 2011, 06:33:57 pm
Hello -

I am evaluating Civicrm for a new website installation.  I have it installed and working fine.  I am trying to set up a test mailing.  When go to mailings, new mailings, I put in a group and press next.  It goes to step 2 "track and respond" so i press next again.  Instead of going to step 3, "mailing content" it loops back to the first screen "select recipients."  The mailing then appears in the list of draft mailings, but it never lets me get to step 3.

If we cant this to work, I will need to find an alternative product :(

running version 4.0 and drupal 7.7.

I have the same issue. Scratching my head as to what is wrong. Did you ever get this resolved?

I see there was an earlier thread asking the same question:

http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,20249.msg84564.html#msg84564

EDIT:

I've found that if I schedule the mass mailing from within the contact list for a group I get to the new step 3 (tracking) but not to step 4 (mailing). Instead the Next button takes me to the Group search functionality.

So in both cases the behaviour of the Next button seems to get corrupted at the point where CiviMail should be stepping to the screen where you create the content of your mailout.

My site and FROM email account details seem to be entered correctly, and I can send a test email from System Settings > Outbound Emails.

Does the system perform some sort of check after the Tracking details are set? I've seen the threads relating to VERP elsewhere on the forum and I'll dig into this if it's likely to be the problem even at this early stage in the mailing process. I know that our hosting service has had trouble with blacklisting in the past.

If this isn't affecting anyone else, can anyone point me to how I could debug this?

The system also goes off to the Group Search page when I try to go from Step 2 to Step 3 when exporting contacts.

I've tried this in both Chrome and Internet Explorer, but this is beginning to look like a browser or scripting language issue to me.

A few folks have run into this in the past. If i had to guess, i think this is due to some setting / config in the web server. If you have mod_security or some other apache modules turned on, might want to disable them briefly and see if that fixes the issue

Thanks, I'll give that a go tomorrow. I'm also going to try a clean install on a local instance of Drupal I have running on my PC to try to rule out settings at my hosting company.
