General Mailing List problem
January 29, 2008, 03:23:15 am
At one time our site allowed anonymous users to subscribe to a public list, or general mailing list. We found that if someone entered an email address in the subscription form and if that email already existed in the system, the name of the existing user would be replaced by the email address. Has anyone run into this problem in 1.9. I did a search of the forum and did not find any other reference to this problem

I just tested this on the 1.9 demo, using the built-in mailing list subscribe form:

http://demo.civicrm.org/drupal/civicrm/mailing/subscribe?gid=2

While logged in, I created a contact w/ email address, first and last name.

As anonymous, I went to the above form and entered the same email address.

The behavior was "as expected" - the existing contact record name and email address were NOT changed, and the contact shows as having a "Pending" membership in the Newsletter Subscribers group.

I'm not sure what to say. I have done the same steps to replicate the problem as first reported by our membership and I got the behaviour I described in my original posting.

I am only getting back to this because there were higher priority items in the way. There may have been some customisation that I am not aware of so I'll have to check back with our developer.
