incorrect total on confirmation emails for free tickets to events

When I offer free tickets to paid events, the confirmation email comes out with an amount of 0.00 but, on the next line, a total of the full price.  I note that on the record payment section the correct total is reflected on all other price points, but 0.00 always shows the full price. 
If I change it in the record payment section to 0.00 (and create a dodgy transaction info for this) the confirmation email is then correct. 
I tried it in the demo system and this problem is repeatable.

can you give the steps to reproduce this on the demo machine (urls / event id etc)

configure event
fall fundraiser dinner
fees
fee label - free ticket
amount 0
register new participant
choose adams, fall fundraiser
select free ticket
check the box record payment and you will see the total amount is $100 not $0 ie the full fee. 
You can change it there, uncheck the box and the receipt will be correct but it is a glitch.  If you dont remember to change it, the receipt will say 0.00 then the next line total $100  - its confusing for people getting free tickets..was their ticket free or not is their question.
