GMAIL Failed to connect to the server: imap gmail com:993.
September 11, 2011, 08:37:26 am
I am trying to connect to the gmail account and it fails with errors.  i have searched the forums and tried different things but can not seem to resolve the problem.  I do not have SSL access to this server.  I contacted the ISP and the said they opened port 993.  I also tried this on a localhosted demo server and had the same errors.

Are there some other settings that are dependent on this?  I am not sure what I am missing.  I should be simple but clearly i am missing something.

I've got the same problem. I'm on Bluehost, so don't have the VERP or Catch-All options for handling bounce and auto-processing. I've set up email accounts on Gmail and set filters there to ensure mail ends up in the INBOX and not in the Spam folder. But when testing using the direct method (domain/sites/all/modules/civicrm/bin/EmailProcessor.php?name=username&pass=password&key=your_site_install_key), I get the same error message you've gotten.

Under Gmail settings it says to use port 465 when using SSL. I haven't yet found a way to specify a port in CiviCRM. It seems like doing that could fix the problem.

Any luck resolving this issue?

check:

Most likely you cannot connect to port 993 from your server (some hosting providers block access to various ports). I would try a:

% telnet imap.gmail.com 993

and see if that works
