Joomla 1.6 URL Rewriting
September 12, 2011, 05:52:10 pm
Hello. First time user of CiviCRM 4.0.5 here, on Joomla 1.6.6.

Our site uses the integrated Global Configuration > Site > Seo Settings > Use URL Rewriting setting in Joomla.  We have renamed htaccess.txt to .htaccess  SEF URLS are a requirement for us.

When we enable URL rewriting in Global Config, our Menu links to CiviCRM components break.  We are not able to manually edit Menu Items that link to CiviCRM content.

How may we use Joomlas excellent SEF Features alongside CiviCRM?

Joomla 1.6 with SEO turned on does work with CiviCRM. I've used it happily that way for a while.

What may be happening is that in the Joomla menu item it is storing the old (pre-SEO) links and those are not properly understood in the new (post-SEO) Joomla/.htaccess system.

Do you get this problem for a freshly created menu item linking to CiviCRM? If not, you may have to recreate (i.e. not manually hack, just recreate using the Joomla functionality) each link. I assume you don't have many front end links in the menu.

The only one I'd mention is that the creating links to Personal Campaign Pages is subject to a bug at the moment, which is fixed but which isn't in the current release. Can't remember the number but if you look down the fixed issues from 4.0.6 you'll see it.
