Double opt-in error with mailing group
September 14, 2011, 06:26:48 am
Some of our mailing list sign-ups are getting sent an automated messages asking them to confirm their signup (double opt-in), and we don't want that to happen.  In fact, it usually doesn't happen - which makes it all the stranger when it does!  Hopefully someone on this forum can help explain why the occasional email sign-up gets sent Civi's default "Subscribe" message.

Here's the situation...  On our website, there are two ways in which someone can sign up to a mailing list: (1) they can get automatically signed up when they register for an event, or (2) they can manually add themselves by going to a mailing list sign-up page that asks for their name and email address.

Normally, neither of those processes require double opt-in.  However, we just noticed a situation in which a woman signed up for an event, getting signed up to that event's mailing list in the process, AND signed herself up manually to another mailing list at the same time.  Civi added her automatically to the first mailing list but didn't to the second; instead, she was sent an automated message asking her to confirm her subscription to the second list.

Is there a way of telling Civi to ALWAYS automatically add people to mailing lists, rather than send them that default "Subscribe" messag and wait for them to confirm?

Thanks!

Donald Lobo

there are a couple of settings in civicrm.settings.php file regarding this.

You might want to check those and see if they are of any help
