Fileserver space issue - what files can I delete?
September 15, 2011, 02:14:57 am
I'm having a fileserver space problem. Is there a list somewhere of files I can safely delete on a CiviCRM install? I'd really appreciate some guidance.

 - I know its safe to delete the content of templates_c and the upload directory
 - what about the "civicrm.zip" file in administrator/components/com_civicrm/
 - and my media/civicrm/custom/ seems to have copies of attachments I've added to emails sent from inside Civi.

(I have CiviCRM 3.4.5 running on two Joomla production sites (www.associationworks.co.za and www.brace.co.za) and am building a new Drupal 6 installation that will soon move to the server)

Many thanks
Davy

Yes

IMO it should be safe to delete it.

If you delete then you won't be able to see any attachments for those emails when you view email activity. So you should keep it.

Thanks Kurund. Much obliged.

Re the email attachments - if I don't need to keep a record of the attachments (many of them are standard docs we regularly send and that never change) would it be OK to delete them?

PS it was great to meet you and the other members of the team in London.  :)

If you delete these files you will end up with broken links when you click on attachments in view / edit mode. So it's up to you.

Same here :)

I'm certain you realize that the contents of templates_c will come back, so this shouldn't be considered a permanent solution.

Thank Kurund and Hershel for the help. It's clearly time to upgrade my hosting package :)
