Advice on how to set up intern information

We have started using CiviCM for an intern "event" database. Each semester in a year is set up as an event. The student uses the event signup form to enter the information we need, including the employer's name and email (as custom profile information) and the student's email.

My problem is how to extract the email addresses for the students for a mass email and extract the employers' email addresses for a mass email separate from the student emails.

The email customization needs to be different for each email, so I need not only to send to a separate group, but make it different for each group.

Can I do this using the "household" model, and have the student register for the event as the ehad of household, and make the employer a member of the household?

Can u explain in more detail how you are storing the employers email address. U mention custom profile, but please elaborate

I added a custom set of fields, some of which contained the employer's name, and another for email. So in the custom profile, these intern set fields were added.

to utilize civi's email functionality, u'll need to have bother the student and the employer as contacts. You cannot store employer info in custom fields.

One easy solution for now might be to write a script which takes the custom fields of employers and creates organizations for them with an associated email address. This script could also put the students in one group and employers in another group which you can then reuse for mailing

Another option might be to use the Webform CiviCRM integration which gives some nice non-code options for creating the Org at same time as the individual etc
