Delete Member Timeout

OK, so I messed up on importing several hundred Membership records.  I used a Member search to identify the records I wanted to delete.  Some 300+ records.  It timed out.

By trial and error I found I could only delete three Membership records at a time without timing out.

Anyone else see this problem?  Anything to be done?  I'm using v.4.05 integrated with Drupal 7.

Right now I'm deleting 3 records at a time!

hmmmm I am not too familiar with the database structure around memberships, otherwise I would have an MySQL statement for you....is it just the membership records you want to delete? Not the contact?

where are you hosting this site? 3 seems like an awfully small number / which most likely means you are running on a fairly slow server

That's useful information for me.  It means it's not generic Civicrm thing, but has something to do with my setup/resources/configuration.  Good to know.

I'm using hotdrupal.com to host the site.  It is a shared server, but normally the performance has been pretty satisfactory.  Really, I've been quite happy with them for several years now.   I've got close to 6000 contacts.   Importing 500 contacts, and 500 memberships in a separate step, went pretty smoothly for example.

Now, that said, I'm always open to a better host.  Do you have any recommendations?  I'm budget conscious, but I'm always happy to pay more for value.

BTW, I solved my particular problem by restoring my civicrm database to the point before I started my latest updates (which I mainly do just once a year).  Thank goodness for backups!

I do not recall running a delete on 300 contacts on a shared host, but 3 is certainly extremely small and the maximum should be far greater. As noted, this is purely a matter of system resources (of course CiviCRM could potentially be optimized more, but that's a separate issue).

The About CiviCRM page ( http://civicrm.org/aboutcivicrm ) says:

CiviCRM is resource-intensive. We encourage users to consider Virtual Private Servers (VPS) OR (semi) dedicated hosting OR shared hosting from a host with experience hosting CiviCRM. Please review our Hosting provider information page for hosting options
