CiviMail without Cron Job?
September 28, 2011, 03:37:23 am
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to use CiviMail without a cron job?

We use CiviCRM for a membership system which only contains about 250 members.

We run CiviCRM on a Joomla based system.  Currently to mail members we use the Joomla mass mail feature.  This works fine... but we would like to utilise the group functionality within our memberships to email certain membership types.

Can I force mail to send each time without setting up a cron job?  I just can't see the mailing feature used heavily enough to warrant the setup of a cron (plus even following all the support suggestions, I could be in over my head).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rubes. ;)

You need cron already for the membership (to set up if they expired...).

For civimail, you need two crons: 1 to send the emails, 1 to process the bounces

finding workaround them might exist, but will create more pain and issues than setting the crons.

Yes. You can always manually run the CiviMail cron PHP scripts via the correct URL, with the correct parameters. Just load that URL into your browser. :)
