Mailing labels missing individual prefix from addressee
September 30, 2011, 12:21:27 pm
Hi,

Strange one but when I output mailing labels I can see the contact first name and last name but not their individual prefix. The addressee shows the prefix and the field 'civicrm_contact.addressee_display' also shows the prefix. The label output has NO prefixes?

IE contact is Lady xxx yyy ---> addressee_display shows Lady xxx yyy but mailing label has xxx yyy?

The label format in admin has {contact.addressee}

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Dave

So when you view the Contact Summary, the Addressee has expected value (prefix first last suffix)? If so, sounds like it might be a bug. However, just tested on my local 3.4.6 install and works as expected. Can you try to recreate your behavior on public demo?

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the response, on further investigation it is the 'merge' checkboxes that cause the issue. Without any merging options the prefix is showing on the label. As soon as you tick either of the merge options (address or household) the prefixes are dropped.

I have reproduced this on the demo site too.

Should I raise a Jira issue?

Also, when you use merge household all organization records are dropped.

Another strange one is that when a household is merged (using either option) say, 'Mr and Mrs X Smith' with contacts 'Mr Xxx Smith' and 'Mrs Yyyy Smith' I would expect to see the merged mailing label going to 'Mr and Mrs X Smith' not 'Mr and Mrs X Smith, Mr Xxx Smith, Mrs Yyy Smith' It does place them all on the same label but doesn't remove the household members? I was expecting to just get the household name instead of all the members listed. Am I misunderstanding the merge options?

Cheers,

Dave

for the first part there is an issue here:

http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-8144

Would be great if you can investigate and submit a patch for this issue and the household issue u mention

Hi Lobo,

Thanks for that, this looks like the exact issue I've seen.

Any ideas on the other behaviour?

Cheers,

Dave
