is civicrm 4.0 much slower than 3.4?

Hey there,

I've been investigating sluggisgness on some of our sites.  I started comparing the speed of CiviCRM on 3.4 vs. 4.0 sites and have also had a poke around on d7.demo.civicrm.org and drupal.demo.civicrm.org.

It appears that CiviCRM is 2-3 times slower on 4.0 than it is on 3.4.  Has anyone else had this experience?

The difference is appreciable when you do an auto complete on a contact with a few letters in their name (hence making a few http requests), e.g. Inner City Arts.

On demo I typically get
* 800ms on 3.4 and
* 2.6 seconds on 4.0

FWIW, I'm seeing a similar dynamic, but the absolute numbers are understandably different. (DC=>Oregon is a shorter trip than UK=>Oregon.) On the D6 demo site, Firebug reports 350-600ms for each "GET /civicrm/dashboard" or "GET /civicrm/ajax/rest" request. On D7, it's more like 600-950ms.
