Admin area works flawlessly, public site... not so much...

Upgraded from Joomla 1.5.23 + CiviCRM 3.3.6 today to Joomla 1.7.1 - CiviCRM 4.0.6.   I know that J1.7 isn't officially  supported, however on a test run everything worked well.  Today, the upgrade went perfectly and the admin area is working normally.  However, on the public side when clicking a link to, for example, "donate", CiviCRM drops the "Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred" message, followed by "You do not have permission to access this page."  We've tripled checked the php settings config files and everything looks perfect.  Anybody else seen this/have a solution?

Well, I've spent all day on this to no avail.  I did a fresh install and sql export/import in an attempt to isolate errors upgrading from 1.5.23 to 1.7.  I no longer get the original error.  Instead, the public side, when clicking any Civi form (vol submission, donate, etc.), gets striped of its styles and there is this error at the bottom:

Fatal error: Class 'JModel' not found in /public_html/modules/mod_weblinks/helper.php on line 14

Solved: Apparently, for whatever reason, when placing a web links module in the footer of the template, it triggered this error.  Any other module appears to work.
