Doodle dot com-like Collaborative private event scheduling
October 02, 2011, 09:40:08 am
Howdy. I've got a use case that I'm thinking about developing over the next year or two (I'm a bit too newb to get deep into development just yet). I'd like to develop a solution for Doodle dot com like collaborative scheduling of events. Having experienced how much prompting it can take to get technically naive users to participate in a Doodle poll (let alone subsequently book a confirmed date) I'd also like it to automate an intelligent schedule of emails prompting participants to vote and book.

Quote
Use case

Multiple event hosts with flexible schedules would like their contacts to vote on which date/time a bookable event is scheduled. The Hosts do not want to commit to an event unless a viable number of contacts say they are able to attend.

Event hosts each have a list of email contacts. A host expresses a list of potential event dates/times on which they would be able to host. From there on the software prompts (and if necessary reminds) their email contacts to choose which event slots they would be able to attend. When one of the potential events has reached a threshold of potential participants the poll is closed and the most popular event becomes bookable. From there on the software prompts (and if necessary reminds) the email contacts to book the event.

Many of the host’s contacts may be too technically naive to register or remember a password. Hence all transactions should be able to be initiated from individualised links sent via email. The hosts themselves are not technically expert. Each host’s list of email contacts must remain private and secure. Only contacts in a host's email list are eligible to vote or book for an event.

I'm throwing it out there at this early stage to ask a) if there's anything that already covers this functionality or b) whether other people would use this functionality?

Cheers,

Ed

p.s. I'm imagining this would be a module/extension/distribution/whatever rather than a proposal for CiviCRM core.
