Mailings - Insert Template does not work properly with TinyMCE CiviCRM v3.4.6
October 04, 2011, 01:24:06 pm
Hi,

I recently upgraded to version 3.4.6 (from 3.4.4) which all seemed to be fine until I tried to do a New Mailing where several issues came up:

1. Using FF inserting a template worked fine but if I switched to a different one it added it to the HTML text rather than replacing it.
2. Using IE on inserting the template it appears twice! As with FF changing template adds it to the HTML text rather than replacing it.

I tested this on the demo site and exactly the same issue occurs. Switching to ckeditor resolves the problem.

Just thought I would post this in case others have the same issue  :)

I have not done to much digging into why this is happening as I am a bit stretched at the moment - checked if TinyMCE is any different between the versions but the changelog is the same so assume not. Must be something else....

Let me know if you want me to log this as a bug.

Cheers,

Piet

One thing I forgot to ask is: Is it best to use CKeditor (as it is the default one)? i.e. is most of the testing for upgrades done using this editor?

Hi Eileen,

I assume you mean the Drupal module - if so no I don't.

It's worth testing if the issue is still there in ckeditor. Also, do you have firebug? Any js errors?

I have tested this again on your demo site and it does not show any js errors in firebug - having said that in FF it seems to work fine apart from when switching between templates where it does insert the new template but not as expected.

To clarify the issue here is an Example:

I have 2 templates:
1. Template A containing html text Hello
2. Template B with html text Goodbye

In FF/Chrome:
1. When I select template A text Hello appears in the html box as expected
2. When I change my mind and Select B I get Hello Goodbye instead of just Goodbye

In Explorer:
1. If I select Template A I get: Hello <newline> Hello
2. If I switch to Template B I get Hello <nl> Hello <nl> Goodbye <nl> Goodbye.

Note this does not happen in CKeditor only TinyMCE
