Strategy to migrate from Fundraise Pro
October 05, 2011, 10:51:35 am
I'm in the process of exporting data from Fundraiser Pro, and trying to get a handle on how to map the fields.

1. I'm concerned on how i'll be able to bring over data for each contact (and type) along with the associated data (donations, memberships, activities, etc) as well. I'm guessing i'll need to bring in the legacy data to something like MySql and run some queries to separate the import files, export and then run updates in civi. Would love some real world examples on how anyone has done that.

2. But first of course, I need to first identify all the core fields and map/populate them with our field types before I even think about custom fields.

Is there a good chart that identifies the essential contact and associated columns (or maybe better terms and concepts) that I could then give to our development team to fill out so I know what structure they expect and can provide the appropriate Civi core values for our org?

For instance;

Contact Types

Group Types

Membership Types

etc.

Something top down so i could get a handle on the structure they expect, configure Civi, and then begin to test import.

Hope that wasn't to long winded. appreciate any help getting organized, so I can move intelligently and swiftly.

Thanks,
Doug

I would start w/ browsing the online book, Organizing data section and then sections for contributions, memberships, etc.

Your imports will need to be done in multiple steps - importing the contact records first and including an "External Identifier" (a unique key from Fundraise Pro) for each contact. Then importing the "transactional" data (contributions, memberships, etc.) using the External Identifier in those imports to "match to contact".
