Can't import both addressee custom and addressee at the same time
October 05, 2011, 02:37:10 pm
I'm trying to import a bunch of new people.  Most can have the standard default addressee e.g. something like Addressee
{contact.first_name}{ }{contact.last_name} but some are specialized where the person doesn't want first_name Last_name.  (This is more the case with postal and email greeting, e.g. Robert Smith may be Dear Bob.)

I tried populate the csv file with a column for custom addressee and addressee leaving the one or the other blank.  This fails import for the ones that have a custom addressee.  The ones with std addressee with the {first}{ } etc. work.   It complains about this: "Invalid value for field(s) : Addressee - Custom".  I tried to reverse the columns no help.  The only way to make it work is to do two different imports or really 4.  One with only custom addressee and custom postal, one with std addressee and std postal, one with custom postal and std addressee, etc.

I realize I should be able to run the routine that I guess fixes greetings and not bother with the import of std ones but I don't feel like doing all the testing to make sure it doesn't mess up the people already in the database.

I'm down rev with 3.2.4 so maybe it's been fixed in latest and greatest; though, I didn't find anything about this issue.

If it is still an issue, I'd be happy to update the documentation to at least mention you can't import both fields at the same time.

Appears to be fixed as of 4.2.1 (possibly earlier) but if you have both fields, then "Addressee" must equal "Customized" if "Addressee - Custom" is non-null.
