Installing CVI CRM - Joomla 1.7
October 05, 2011, 09:54:15 pm
I have tried every version of your instructions and a few I made up myself (and I cannot seem to get this software to upload).
Joomla installer keeps telling me to: "Please enter a package directory"

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I actually got the software to install (but only partially). Has anyone ever seen this message, and if so any suggestions:

JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find Joomla XML setup file
JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file
        Error building Admin Menus

Can you describe exactly what process you use to install?

This is what worked for me.

1. download CiviCRM 4.0.6 from the website.
2. unzipped it.
3. uploaded the "com_civicrm" folder to my joomla tmp folder on the root directory.
4. Goto extension manager, and used install from directory option
5. make sure path points to the com_civicrm folder in your tmp folder.
eg. C:\xampp\htdocs\j17\tmp\com_civicrm where C:\xampp\htdocs\j17\ is your site root folder
6. Click install and wait patiently.

Hope this works for you.   ;)

"please enter a package directory" almost always means you're not pointing to the correct location of the unzipped package. make sure that the directory your placing in that field is the location of where you uploaded the package.

You can also upload the much smaller .zip file to /tmp and install with the URL to that location. Much quicker than uploading the extracted package.
