Do I Need a Shopping Cart if Using PayPal Pro?

Hi all,

This may be stupid question, so I apologize in advance!  :P

We have a client that wants to upgrade to PayPal Website Payments Pro but we're not clear as to CiviCRM's process flow.

Does CiviCRM handle the payment flow? 

i.e.,

  • User fills out contribution page, clicks the Confirm Contribution button.
  • CiviCRM returns the contribution confirmation page, user clicks the Continue button.
  • CiviCRM automagically connects with PayPal Pro account in the background.
  • When payment is accepted, CiviCRM returns the thank you page. (or has error handling?)

All WITHOUT the need for a shopping cart?

Or do we have to install a shopping cart?

So confused!

HI Vanessa - no you don't need a shopping cart - these types of processes are handled by civicrm directly - paypal pro is already provided under the payment processors

Thank you SO much for your reply! I was pretty sure that was correct, but never having done it, well...ya just never know!
