User create account/log in on the web to change contact details and preferences
October 07, 2011, 04:13:48 am
Hi there,
I am a pretty new bee with CiviCRM and I am testing it with the joomla demo before installing it.

This question might have already been pointed by any other CiviCRM users, however I haven't found any post that could actually help me to figure out how to manage subscriptions in the way I explain here.

I want to use CiviMail to carry out newsletter campaigns. In order to let the users subscribe to my newsletters, I would like them to fill a form with some info, such as email (required), First Name, Last Name  and check the type of information that they want: climate change, environmental sciences, etc. (checkbox). I have already created all these fields, as custom fields, in the individual  profile and also have created a CiviCRM profile with the form that they should fill.

My question is, what should I do to let them modify their contact details and information preferences (let say one user doesn't want any more climate change news, but environmental ones... or wants to change its email address) Which step am I missing? What am I doing wrong?

If there is any post with the steps to do this, please would you mind to answer this post with the link?
Thanks in advance for any help!!!!!!

You can create front-end profile form(s) with the fields you want constituents to update and expose them via Joomla menu manager. If your constituents are going to have Joomla user accounts on your site, then you can send them to the profile directly (in 'edit' mode) and expose that menu item to logged in front-end users only. If folks will not have logins, you can send them links to the profile form which include a "checksum" which provides temporary authentication.
