I have a customer request that they accept pledges via the online contribution page but that:

1) one-off contributions are not accepted on the page
2) the installments box is removed & all are open-ended
3) 'fortnightly' is added as an option (but not 3 weekly or 'n' * week/month)

Am I right in thinking that these are considered to be useful features for the future someday but not available at the moment and that the only way to implement them currently is to use a hook?

We would find it useful to have one-ended pledges, and to have 'quarterly' as a frequency option (much like your 'fortnightly').

Note that one-ended pledges are already possible - is your requirement the same as our customers - ie. only to allow one-ended pledges?

I'm assuming the schema for contribution_page would be needed to permit this? & also #1

If open-ended pledges are already possible, can you point me to some documentation on that?

Traditionally, our supporters 'pledge' to support us in an open-ended manner, and it's only since we started with CiviCRM that we've even thought of lime-limited pledges. So we'd prefer not to have a time-limit.

Having said that, putting a time limit on a pledge is useful when people are donating by credit card, as it's a way of capturing when their card expires. It also forces us to not become complacent with our long-term supporters!

I'm pretty sure the installments box is optional - meaning you can leave it blank & it will be open ended.
