General Questions regarding CiviCRM
October 12, 2011, 12:50:36 pm
Hello,
I am currently looking into various CRM programs to see which is the best fit for our non-profit. CiviCRM looks to be a great fit, but I do have a few questions:

 1. Can CiviCRM be integrated with Vertical Response?

  2. Does CiviMail have the capability to mail by groups and is there a limit to the number of emails we can send daily? Also, do people that we’re emailing need to ‘opt-in’ to receive emails from us?

  3. Does CiviCRM integrate with any sort of auto internet phone dialing program?

  4. Lastly, are there any sort of fees involved with CiviCRM? We would be interested in the CiviCRM, CiviEvent & CiviMail.

I'd appreciate it if someone could get back to me regarding my questions. I emailed the CiviCRM directly and they suggested that I post my questions here. I appreciate any help I could get on this. Thank you.

1 - no idea
2 - yes, no and no
3 - not currently. would be great if you could help fund this
4 - it is free open source. the costs are in the implementation and any customisation/development which hopefully would come back to the community by way of documentation, advice, support of others, recipes, patches etc

hope that helps

3 Some of our people are using http://www.noojee.com.au/products/noojee-click/click-overview/ with Asterisk which gives all phone numbers a clickable icon - you click and it calls your phone and theirs. That's not CiviCRM specific but it does work...
There's also a Flash plugin for Asterisk http://www.asternic.org/ which we have popping up Civi activities when the phone rings. The activity is populated with the contact id so you just have to make notes and save - there's some physical networking you need to do as well, so your phone passes the network connection to your PC but that's pretty sweet.

Hope that's helpful

1. No idea
2. Yes
3. There is no standard but I think it is not too difficult to create (and Davem gave a good suggestion too).
4. That is the hardest one. There is no license fee for CiviCRM, so you do not pay for the software nor do you get charged for updates. The rest depends on what you can/will do yourself. If you need a hoster, that does cost money. If you need customization, training, guidance in using CiviCRM you have to pay for specialists to do so. In the ideal world and if you have knowledge in your environment, it is helpful if you take active part in the community, and some see this as cost too :-)
