Mail creates new email addresses and then ends up marking good addresses as bad.

If the household name has commas in it, mailing will break on the commas and send the same email to multiple places.  When the made up addresses bounce the good address is marked on hold.

When you send email it creates the to by taking the display name and adding the email address after it.  So email to John Smith with an address of john@email.com will be sent to John Smith <john@email.com>

So if you have a person listed like:  Smith, John and Jones, Jane   and you send email to these people, the email program sees the commas as new addresses so you get the to being  smith@servername, john@servername, and@servername, jones@servername, jane <johnjanesmith@email.com>.  Since the to's on the same message when the three bad addresses bounce they follow the return path and mark the one good one as on hold.    I'm not too sure why it created a to as "and" because it didn't do when the name was just Smith, Bob and Jane.

This is on 3.2.4 so maybe this has been fixed or maybe there is a way to specify a different greeting to use when it creates the to.  Or maybe if there is an email greeting custom it will use that.

(We converted the data into this database and it was listed as Last Name, First name in the old database.  Eventually, we'll reverse it.)
