Member Search Profile Creating Duplicate Entry
October 18, 2011, 07:36:16 am
I'm running Civi 4.0.1 in a Joomla 1.6.4 environment.

A simple Member Search profile on my site is creating a duplicate entry in the "found" listing if the location_type_id of any one of these contact fields [phone | email | address ] is not set identically to the others.  For instance, if 2 of the fields are set to "main" and the 3rd to "work" a duplicate entry is created.  In order to eliminate the duplicate entry, these three contact fields  [phone | email | address ] must be set the same. It appears not to matter which setting is used (e.g. work, home, main, other, etc.) as long as all are identical.

Setting/unsetting the Primary flag on those same fields doesn't affect the creation of a duplicate entry; only whether or not the particular field data shows up in the listing.  If the Primary flag of the email field is set to 0, for instance, the email address will not show up in the listing even if its location_type_id is the same as the other fields.

This behavior practically cancels the usefulness of allowing users to accurately identify these specific fields or include additional information of the same type.

Is there any workaround available for this?  Thanks for any help you can give!

Yes, this a known bug and is partly due to the prior data model :( This has been coming up fairly often recently and would be great to get it fixed. If you can investigate and figure out a patch that would be great. Ping us on IRC and we can help u get started
