Contribution and membership config problem - what am I missing?
October 24, 2011, 11:26:02 am
First, thanks for all the work put in on creating CiviCRM!  :D

Second, I know I know, this has been adressed before, but the post I found that was closest to my problem (http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,4286.msg18683.html#msg18683) provides a solution that for me gives an error message (of course, I may be missing something, but for the life of me, I just cannot see what).  ???

I want to create a contribution page that does two things:

1) Creates a new member record
2) Gives the option to add an extra contribution (preferably a pre-defined sum, as it is supposed to be rental fee for storing a kayak in a boathouse)

These are for accounting purposes to be treated separately (separate accounting accounts (does that make sense? I'm Norwegian, see..)), but in the same contribution sum (i.e. one transaction).

This is what I've done:
I've created a price set with membership fee and boathouse rent as two fields.
I've created a contribution page and checked the field "CONTRIBUTION AMOUNTS SECTION ENABLED". But when I try to check the box "Separate Membership Payment", I get the following error:

Quote
Please correct the following errors in the form fields below:
You cannot enable both Membership Signup and a Contribution Price Set on the same online contribution page.
If I try to do this the other way around, first enabling the Separate Membership Payment, I get this error message:

Quote
Please correct the following errors in the form fields below:
Please enable the contribution amount section to use this option.

Of course, if I try to do this, checking the CONTRIBUTION AMOUNTS SECTION ENABLED box, I get back to the first error again...

What am I missing? I thought from the comment below the "Separate Membership Payment" box, that this was for enabling just this feature? Or  have I misunderstood something (again)?

I'd really appreciate help on this! Thanks a million in advance!
(And if there's another way of doing this and making it work, I'm open for all suggestions!)

edit: forgot to mention I'm using Drupal 7.8 and CiviCRM 4.0.6.

The price set is set to be used for Memberships?

And I should have asked if you have replicated this on Demo?

And are all Norwegians making fun of themselves  :P

Oh holy Mary sweet lovable mother of.... Of course! Why didn't I see that?  ::)
(I could probably blame my 1 year-old son, as he broke my glasses this weekend, but.... I know that wouldn't be the entire truth  ;D)

Well, it now works almost like expected/supposed to, but I do get another error.

It looks like I haven't managed to "lock" the contribution page to a membership type? The error shows up when trying to submit a contribution, and it sounds:

Quote
Please correct the following errors in the form fields below:
Please select at least one membership option.

However, there is no way to select a membership in the form that is presented to the user. I suppose I was to somehow set this in advance (so that the user didn't have to).

I've tried this in Demo now, and of course, there it works all too well (*grumble*), so I know that it's me this time  ;)

But, I'm starting to believe that this error could've got something to do with the payment processor I've chosen. (PayPal Standard)
Could that be it? Or am I way out there again? I don't even know why I think that....

Anywho, it's getting real late now, so I think I probably have to catch some shuteye. Have to be up in 4-5 hours time (yup, that son of mine again), and I'm not really functioning anymore anyway.. Hopefully I can get this fixed tomorrow.

As to your last little question, I don't know if all Norwegians make fun of themselves, but then again, not all Norwegians are as easy to make fun of as yours truly you know...  8)
Still, I really hope they do!

Um - did you tick a Membership Type on the Memberships tab of the Contribution Page - and by select i mean 'tick' it on the left, not the 'default' radio buttons on the right (which has tripped me up several times)
Its great having toddlers to blame - like being able to say 'the dog ate my homework'

Uh, it seems that changing the price set didn't work, but creating one from scratch did... Doh.

Well. As I said in my previous, it is getting late here... So, I'll keep toddling tomorrow and blame it on my toddler. Yeah, that is great  ;D

Thanks for all your help so far!
