Is CiviCRM right for my project?
October 24, 2011, 11:42:01 am
Hello all,

I am trying to devise a system that will enable multiple personnel to enter data into forms on a daily basis. The form would consist of multiple fields, including project number, personnel name, date, a few photos, etc. After entering data, key personnel would be notified automatically via email. Completed forms should be accessible by searching for project or personnel name (and perhaps a date range) and a PDF output of the form would be available.

After some preliminary research, it seems that a combination of CiviCRM's Profile and Custom Data functions will be able to fulfill my needs, but I am not completely sure, due to lacking a thorough understanding of CiviCRM's capabilities.

Thanks for your time.

Hi SparrowEco
You can create any custom data fields you like (including contact reference) simply through the UI and create forms based on combinations of these and standard fields either through profiles or using the Drupal Webform integration http://drupal.org/project/webform_civicrm
which may be easier if your experience is more with Drupal than Civi.
You can then create further profiles to expose parts of the entered data to those or other users giving them a restricted view of the complete data if required. Again you can also do this through Drupal using views - this would also give you the search feature through exposed filters. And if you take that route, http://drupal.org/project/views_pdf will be your friend for the final part of the puzzle.
Can't see anything that would be a problem here.
