Membership Renewal Not Processing Change of Membership Type

Our organization just added a 2-year membership type as an anniversary special for regular and new members.  It will only be available through the end of 2011.  The new membership type shows on the renewal contribution page and is available for selection.  However, when a member with an existing regular membership attempts to renew and selects the special 2-year membership, they are charged for the new membership, but the type and duration of their membership remains the same as before, e.g. regular, 1yr.

Need some help with this very quickly if possible.
