mail() returned failure....

CiviCRM 3.4, Joomla 1.5, Hostmonster

Hi All,

I am new here.

I just setup a Joomla site and installed CiviCRM on it. I was able to successfully create a contribution page too. However, when I go to 'Test-Drive' or even 'Live Page' and submit a contribution, I get the following error:

------------------------------------------------------
An error occurred when CiviCRM attempted to send an email (via SMTP). If you received this error after submitting on online contribution or event registration - the transaction was completed, but we were unable to send the email receipt.

The mail library returned the following error message:
mail() returned failure

This is probably related to a problem in your Outbound Email Settings (Administer CiviCRM » Global Settings » Outbound Email), OR the FROM email address specifically configured for your contribution page or event. Possible causes are:

    Your Sendmail path is incorrect.
    Your Sendmail argument is incorrect.
The FROM Email Address configured for this feature may not be a valid sender based on your email service provider rules
.
----------------------------------------------------

So I checked and it looked like I was missing some stuff. Here is what I did:

On the Host (Hostmonster):
  - I setup the email account that would be used to send emails (newproj@mydomaindotcom).

On CiviCRM:
- I setup the 'From email address' and mail accounts in CiviMail (newproj@mydomaindotcom).
- I setup Outbound email addresses in 'Administer' > 'Global Settings' > 'Outbound Email (SMTP/Sendmail)'
     - It is setup as 'mail()'
     - I did a 'Save and Send Test Email' and it works just fine.

On Joomla, my settings are as follows:

- 'Site' > 'Global Configuration' > 'Server' > 'Mail Settings':

Mailer: Sendmail
Mail from: newproj@mydomaindotcom
From Name: TestMCC
Sendmail Path: /usr/sbin/sendmail
SMTP Authentication: No
SMTP Security: None
SMTP Port: 25
SMTP Username: <blank>
SMTP Password: <blank>
SMTP Host: localhost

Do any of these look wrong?
What am I missing?
Any settings that might need to be modified at the host?

Thank you all for your help.

I don't quite follow you--after you changed all the settings, do you still get an error message? If so, what is it?

If you see either of:

    Your Sendmail path is incorrect.
    Your Sendmail argument is incorrect.

then yes, I would suggest you ask your host to assist you with that.

Yes, it still is not working.

I am getting the same error message.

My host seems clueless as what to do  :(

Thanks.

Can you try one of the other methods listed on 'Administer' > 'Global Settings' > 'Outbound Email (SMTP/Sendmail)' ?
