Custom data in confirmation, thank you screens and email receipt

Can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere - we have some custom data on contribution forms. The custom data is stored in a set that's intended for contributions.

In the confirmation screen this adds a block with the custom donation data, but we want it incorporated in a different way that makes more sense (for example, if a field is empty, not to show it at all). Same for the email receipt.

In the message templates one can insert tokens, but those seem to be contact tokens only (and we want to edit the custom donation fields). When editing the templates I can't seem to figure out how to call these fields at all...

Hope this makes sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

By any chance, did you find an answer to this problem?  I am dealing with the same issue.  I need to include custom data on the email receipt.  I've found the data in the database in the civicrm_value_FIELD table.  But cannot get this translated to a token.

We are facing the same issue. Any solution to insert custom tokens in donation receipts?

the id for custom fields changes on different pages....
e.g. if you have a custom field for storing Cheque Date in contribution page.... then its id will be different on add contribution page  than the id on the page you get when you try to edit it in the contacts donation tab....
civicrm's database stores the data against this 2nd id... so if you want to enter the custom data in the receipt mail.... you have to use this 2nd id
