Hi -  I have searched for this and am surprised not to find an answer already in either the CiviEvent or CiviContribute forum, perhaps my searching capabilities aren't working well today.  If someone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

Wondering how to best associate contributions with events when the contributions are NOT registration fees. 

I have two slightly different uses for this:

(1) non-attendees like "ad sales". I'd like the $ to be related to the event since its clearly event income, but the ad purchaser often isn't registered.  I could fake this with a new "non-counted" role, but wondering if that's the correct way.

(2) secondary event related donations such as auction income.  In this situation the person would have registered for the event and paid the fee, and now makes a contribution at the event - such as silent auction, raffle, or similar.  Again, I'd like the income tied to the event, and am not sure how to enter that.

Is there some way to associate contributions with events without or in addition to registration?
